Hello! My name is Sally, and I make gift boxes. I’m based in Cam, Gloucestershire, and have been making boxes for a little while now.
My inspiration comes from a few sources – from Christmas films (usually American) where the people come home from shopping with beautifully wrapped presents which only have to have the lid lifted to reveal the contents; from getting into a right old tangle trying to wrap odd shaped gifts; from seeing my Grandma struggle to open her gifts because she couldn’t grip the paper to rip it; from seeing my Mum’s face light up at the sight of a lovely boxed gift heading her way ….
I think that a lovely box lifts a gift – a few handmade goodies in a box doesn’t have to be expensive, yet to the recipient it will seem like you’ve made the biggest effort. A box can be intriguing – the vintage style boxes, made to look like something that you’d find in the back corner of Grandma’s wardrobe, would be perfect for vintage style jewellery. There are also more contemporary styles, as well as traditional ribboned boxes. Boxes can also mask the shape of gifts to confound any present squeezer! And more seriously, for those with dexterity problems, a box lid is easier to lift than fighting with paper and tape.
The boxes will be in The Looking Glass for the whole of December, so please come and have a look, and I hope that you find a box that suits your needs! If not, please contact me and I’ll be happy to make a box to your specifications if I can.
